Rock garden, as the name depicts lies in the huge bed of rocks also know as Giddha Pahar (gets its name from famous Mata mandir – The Giddha mandir), the high rocky hills all over the surrounding areas makes the place quite unique. The Britishers laid down the railway tracks for the DHR and constructed roadways by cutting these hills.There used to be a very small pony road which the locals used as a shortcut to reach a place called Gayabari, which was faster than train or any other vehicles, but now the track has been replaced by a motor road.
Read MoreThe Dow Hill Park was initially called Deer Park as many deer’s in and around these parts had made it their home. Alas, with deforestation over the years, deer sightings are now a rarity. A large fenced area in the adjacent forest is still one of the places where deers may be occasionally sighted. However, tourists are not allowed to venture into the forest and may only look at the deers from outside the fenced area. There are number of hedges and plantations surrounding the park. Children can enjoy themselves in the playground with slides and swings.
Read MoreFrom the main market a steep road climbs uphill towards the Dow Hill area. This is the original Hill Cart Road connecting Kurseong with Darjeeling. As the new version of the Hill cart road came up, this road was renamed as the "Old Cart Road". From Kurseong you have to climb just a kilometre or so to enter the Dowhill eco park area. The forested area is maintained by the state forest department and there is a forest rangers training college here. In the same Dow Hill area you can also visit the forest museum maintained by the forest department.
